College Writing 1 Final
20 December 2016
When I first
started my freshman year of college, I was so nervous about how I was going to
manage my school work. I thought classes were going to be a lot more strenuous
and time consuming compared to high school. I was enrolled in a few gen-eds as
well as electives, and college writing was one of my required courses. I had
myself all freaked out, thinking that I would have to write 12-15 page papers
every other week, but that was not at all the case.
To be honest,
College writing was one of my easier classes. This course was a lot like the
English classes I took in high school, and it didn’t seem to challenge me. Four
different essays were assigned throughout the first semester, each of them were
2-6 pages in length. We did more than just write the essay and turn it in for
grading; we went through the different steps to construct an essay effectively
and shared our writings with classmates to get a few different opinions. Each
piece of writing corresponded with the one previous to it in some way.
Assignments included a personal essay, a summary, a rhetorical analysis, and a
research paper.
The topic for almost every essay related to
sports in some way. Even though the internet is flooded with information and
articles about sports, I found myself getting bored of the same topic.
I thought the
work load was manageable, and Prof.Hayman was very understanding and lenient on
the due dates of assignments. I’m a student athlete, and that in itself can be
overwhelming. I often struggled to complete all my assignments on time. Even
with my hectic schedule, I still put substantial effort into making sure my work
was the best it could be.
I’ve surely
enjoyed my first semester at Springfield College. Being away from my family and
friends and learning to be independent was tough, but proved rewarding. I met
so many amazing people, with whom I’ve created unforgettable memories. I can’t
wait to see what the future holds.
